Emergency Tooth Extractions in Fairmont, WV
Prompt emergency appointments available.
You do not need a referral to see our oral surgery team.
If you have a severely painful, infected, broken, or non-restorable tooth, waiting can lead to worsening pain, swelling, and spreading infection. We make every effort to see emergency patients as quickly as possible.
Our office performs tooth extractions every day — including difficult cases such as impacted teeth, fractured roots, and teeth that other offices may not treat. Whether you need a simple extraction or a more complex surgical procedure, we’ll explain your options clearly and help keep you comfortable throughout treatment.
We offer local anesthesia, nitrous oxide, and IV sedation based on your procedure and comfort level.

We specialize in removing infected, non-fixable teeth
Many of the patients we see have been told their tooth is "too far gone to save" — cracked below the gumline, abscessed, decayed past the point of a root canal or crown. Removing these teeth safely and gently is one of the things we do most, every single day.
As an oral surgeon, this is core training. We handle:
Severely decayed teeth that can no longer be restored
Abscessed and infected teeth causing facial swelling or throbbing pain
Cracked or broken teeth, including those broken at the gumline
Wisdom teeth causing pain, infection, or pressure
Teeth that have failed previous root canals or crowns
Multiple extractions in a single visit, when needed
We try to see and treat you quickly
If you're in active pain, swollen, or having trouble eating or sleeping, please tell us when you call. We will do everything we reasonably can to get you in quickly.
Sedation options to get you through it safely and comfortably
Many people put off getting an infected tooth removed because they're afraid — of the procedure, of the needle, of the sounds and sensations. That fear is completely understandable, and it's one we take seriously.
In appropriate cases, we offer the full range of sedation options to make your extraction as safe and comfortable as possible:
Local anesthesia — the area is fully numbed; you're awake but feel no pain.
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) — a gentle, fast-acting option that takes the edge off anxiety. It wears off quickly, so you can usually drive yourself home.
IV sedation — a deeper level of relaxation administered through a small IV. Most patients remember little to nothing about the procedure itself. You'll need a driver to bring you home.
During your consultation, we'll talk through your medical history, your anxiety level, and the complexity of the extraction to help you choose the option that's right for you.

Insurance and Payment
Our practice is out-of-network with dental insurance plans, but we file claims on your behalf as a courtesy so your benefits go to work for you. Many patients with PPO plans receive significant reimbursement for oral surgery procedures. We'll provide a clear written estimate before any treatment so there are no surprises, and we're happy to discuss payment options during your visit.
Frequently Asked Questions About Emergency Tooth Extractions
How fast can you get me in for an emergency extraction? Most emergency patients are seen the same week they call, and many are seen the same day. The sooner you call, the more flexibility we have to fit you in.
Can you take out a tooth that's infected, or do I need to take antibiotics first? Every case is unique. The answer Is to remove the infected tooth as soon as possible. However, infected teeth can be harder to numb and lower teeth can also be tougher to numb. Sometimes a course of antibiotics can help make it easier to get a patient comfortable. Sometimes a patient will need laughing gas or IV sedation. But every case is evaluated individually. Removing the source of the infection is often the fastest path to feeling better.
Do I need a referral from a dentist? No. You can call our office directly to schedule or message us here
How much does an emergency tooth extraction cost? Cost depends on the complexity of the extraction and the type of sedation, if any. We provide a clear written estimate before treatment and file insurance claims on your behalf to maximize your benefits.
Do you offer sedation? Every case is unique but sedation can make it an easier cxpereince in appropriate cases. We offer local anesthesia, nitrous oxide, and IV sedation. We'll choose the safest option together based on your health history and the procedure.
What if my tooth broke off at the gumline? This is one of the most common situations we treat. Even when there's very little tooth left to grab, an oral surgeon has the tools and training to remove the remaining root safely.
How long is recovery after an extraction? Most patients feel significantly better within 24 to 72 hours, especially once an infection is removed. We'll send you home with detailed aftercare instructions and our number to call if anything comes up.
